Students from the Masters of Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Colorado Denver participated in this hands-on studio in the spring of 2016. Design Studio IV/VII was taught by Lori Catalano, assistant professor clinical teaching track. Students met with City of Lakewood officials and with the public to gather information, and based on that information designed updates to Lasley Park. They then presented 6 design concepts to the public and the city of Lakewood. As a result of this studio, three students were hired by the city to help complete the final design for the park. Lakewood hopes complete the redesign in the summer of 2017.
Hometown Colorado Initiative
This studio was part of the Hometown Colorado Initiative (HCI), a new university-community program that has University of Colorado Denver faculty and students working with city government departments on projects that will move their sustainability goals forward. This project with the City of Lakewood provides students with hands-on learning opportunities while continuing the university’s commitment to the greater Denver community.
